10 Small Things to Treasure in Autumn

"IT WAS ONE OF THOSE PERFECT ENGLISH AUTUMNAL DAYS
WHICH OCCUR MORE FREQUENTLY IN MEMORY THAN IN LIFE
"
~Author P.D. James~

1. The Harvest moon sitting plump and white,
looking out over the mountains.

2.
Cowboy football.

3. The scents: cinnamon, nutmeg & cloves.

4. Pumpkins: this year's favorites are the Cinderella
whites and the warty ones.

5. Hot tea or cider any time of day!

6.
Caramel apples.

7. Brilliant, gold leaves against a clear, blue sky.

8. Leaves crunching underfoot.

9. Flannel sheets at the end of a long day.

I love Fall!

It is, perhaps, my most favorite time of year. I love ALL of the sights, sounds and smells that you associate with fall: the yummy smell of something baking in the oven, the sound of leaves crunching underfoot; the glorious wonder of the changing fall foliage; the crisp morning air that burns off into a pleasant afternoon sun; football {and football snacks, of course}; and getting to change out the wardrobe {bring on the sweaters and jackets}!

Today was one of those beautiful, Indian summer days {which I am sure are numbered} perfect for decorating the house!

A street view of our house.
The window boxes are a nice
pop of color against the brown.

Close up of the porch.

Our fall wreath that adorns the front door.

The window boxes full of mums,
sun flowers, leaves, berries and
gourds.

Our little wagon full of pumpkins.
These beauties are from a neighbors
garden - how lucky are we!?!

The last lawn-mowing

We all went outside this afternoon and raked leaves (and doggy poop) and generally cleaned up the front and back yard - I even mowed the lawn. It's always kind of sad to know that this is the last time the lawn mower will be out until sometime in April; I don't mind working in the yard, and during the winter it's tough to be stuck inside not getting any sun or fresh air.

The nice thing is, the lawn looks good for the rest of the Fall now. We actually had some leaves this year thanks to all the trees we've planted over the past two years, so there was more to rake up.

One more week until Halloween, and daylight savings time ends next weekend, too. It's going to be another busy week of parties and meetings and whatever tends to come up. We were just invited to another party on Friday (that makes three we need to make), and the girls have two. I have a video job to work on Saturday in addition to the normal Halloween activities. Thank God I don't have to attend the AB meeting in SLC on Tuesday - that would have been too much.
