Golfing in the Wyoming Wind

I woke up today with an urge to get the sticks out. It's been a long winter, and even on what appeared to be a windy day, I wanted to get out. Bella and Hannah and I set out around noon over to Rolling Green in Green River.

The girls both played very well, but I was most impressed with Hannah - she is not our most athletic child, but she got out today and smashed that ball around. On #5, she hit from 75 yards out and made the green. Not bad! She was so proud of herself, and I couldn't help but grin.

Bella also had a good day, but the wind really bothered her, so much that by #6, she was done and ready to head home. I couldn't really blame her, the wind became much colder by the river and it was hard to concentrate on anything but keeping our hands warm.

After a snack bar hotdog, we headed home and both girls were asleep before the GR tunnels.

Mini Manicures

So, the girls have been begging me to get their nails done. On Saturday, as a treat and for some special time together, I took them to a local nail salon so that they could each get their nails painted. They each got to choose their own color and then got designs painted on as well. The results turned out pretty nice {a little crazy too}, we had a great time, and most importantly, they LoVe them!

Family Night Out

We just returned from the Barnyard 500, a fundraiser for the Catholic youth organization in our parish. It's basically dinner plus races between souped-up and stock moveable stuffed animals, much like those you'd see at the gift store at the mall. We had a nice, fast-looking dachshund picked out, when our designated animal handler (Mia) decided she liked the seal better. The downside to this choice was that the seal never moved forward. It only sat and barked and turned in circles. Mia was so sad her seal came in last in its heat, but happy when she found out there was ice-cream for dessert. So is the life and attention span of a five-year-old.

The real kicker to all this was that there was also a dessert auction. I'm really not a big cake or pie kind of fellow, but I crave potica. Potica is, from what I understand, a Slavic pastry made from thin dough, rolled up around a layer of some kind of filling. The thinner the dough, the more room the is for filling. When we growing up, Dad would only share very thin slices of his Christmas potica, and i have carried this tradition on with my kids. The thing with potica is, you only really get it around the holidays. You have to be on someone's gift list, and you only get one. I am currently on no list, as the nice ladies I have come to depend on for keep passing away. But tonight, I bid on two plates of non-Christmas potica which I won. It's a little odd eating it this time of the year, and it certainly negated any good I did on the bicycle this morning.

So now we are back at home, Both Sophie and Hannah have sleepover guests, Bella is sleeping over at a friend's birthday party, and Mia is asleep with Bella's dog. With any luck, everyone will go to sleep soon.

While pulling those pics of Hannah, I came across lots of pictures of Mia and thought I should do an "in honor of Mia post". Her birthday was in March and frankly, although Mia is the youngest, it was ridiculously difficult to choose pictures of her because she is by far and away the biggest ham of our family. Hope you enjoy these as much as we enjoyed reliving the memories...

Hannah's Party

Last Saturday {April 3} was Hannah's birthday and due to Spring Break we had to postpone her "friend" party until this Saturday. Needless to say, we are all aflutter around here as we prepare for the big day. Hannah is having a neighborhood scavenger hunt with her friends. With the help of someone-we have super cute invites {I wrote the cheesy poem/wording & she designed the graphic portion} and I even found a local lady that is making a 'treasure box' cake similar to that on the invitations. We ordered some pirate treasure themed party ware & trinkets so, it should be pretty cute! Stay tuned for pictures and the final results!

Mia the Great

Mia has taken to bribery. It's a wonderful value that we have tried to instill in all of our children but for some odd reason she has really excelled in {ha ha}. Lately, whenever she is doing anything that is less than desirable and you ask her to stop she replies, "I will stop it if you get me {insert whatever item it is she's requesting}." Other times she implements this fine tactic are when she wants you to do something and you ask her to patiently wait for a moment. She immediately begins {for example} tapping your computer screen and once asked to stop she lovingly replies, "well if you don't come help me then I won't stop." How nice.

Today was my favorite bribery to date. She began throwing a fit and refusing to go to school and then just stopped mid-fit and said "I'll stop if you take me to the place that is selling the 'Pinkalicious' toys."

As I am sitting her writing this another fine example is occurring...I won't open the Peeps that she wants to eat NOW; therfore, I am being told "if you don't open these right now, I am going to go eat a popsicle." That seems like a win-win for Mia!

My birthday adventure

Yesterday was my birthday. We went to ITz in Colorado Springs, Colorado. It was so much fun! We played games and went on rides and we also won tickets. It was like my lucky day because I won my sister 25 tickets and when you look at them it will look more like 75 tickets. My sister even said it looked more like 75. She said "how much did you win me, 75 tickets? I said: no, I won you 25. Anyway in all I had 376 tickets. The prizes I got were a mood ring which I am wearing right now and a guy who sticks to walls and ceilings.

Easter morning...

Easter Morning

The Spicer clan has been down visiting family in Colorado Springs since Wednesday, celebrating Hannah's ninth birthday on April 3rd and generally enjoying a short vacation from the cold and snow in Wyoming.

Today is Easter, and as expected it's been a wild one for us. The kids were up at 7:00 a.m. and ready to go, while the adults were desperately seeking just a few more minutes of peace and quiet; that was not to be, however.

Apparently in Colorado Springs, the Easter Bunny prefers to hide his eggs outdoors. This happened very early this morning while the children were all pretending to be sleeping in their beds. However, when hard-boiled eggs are hidden around the front lawn and allowed to lie there for several hours, other interested parties may choose to participate in the hunt. And that's what happened; a furry animal of some kind found several of the eggs and scarfed them down, leaving only a little bit of colored eggshell as evidence. I expect that some nice family let their dog or cat back in this morning, unaware of the crimes that their beloved Fluffy had perpetrated. I also expect that Fluffy, soon after entering the house, deposited evidence of these same crimes on the living room rug. That's karma for you.

In general, the kids were as wound up as I would have expected, but Mia was beyond excited. She was shaking so bad before sugar intake she could barely dig through her basket. The kids all received a book and a stuffed animal or two, as well as other small gifts. They also have a chocolate bunny (or as Mia prefers, chocolate shauzé, which is a previously-unknown French or Italian or Portuguese word for onset of diabetes). We have had to remove Mia's bunny from plain sight, as she is determined to eat the whole shauzé before brunch. The rest of the girls have all squirreled their Easter candy to their own hiding places. And Petey-poo, Maggie's parents' miniature Schnauzer, has consumed at least a pound of delicious jelly-beans. I am confident that he will not be allowed back inside until later in the day, which is fine because he is running laps around the back yard right now.

We did decide to forgo Church today in favor of a more leisurely breakfast and morning, followed by Easter brunch at the local buffet restaurant. Maggie's grandmother and (hopefully) brother and sister-in-law are supposed to be joining us as well. I hope they made enough macaroni and cheese, as we tend to gravitate towards that at most restaurants. After we get back, it will be time to start repacking for the trip home on Monday.

Beautiful, Beautiful, Beautiful Girls...

A couple of months ago, we had to have a headshot of Hannah for the Utah Dance Fest. We loved it so much that we had head shots done of each girl to hang in our living room. They turned out BeAuTiFuLlY!!! We hope you enjoy them as much as we are!

Saturday, April 3, 2010

Okay, today is my sister Hannah's birthday Well I've been singing her a song: "happy happy birthday, to all of us not you, we wish you a happy birthday, so we can party not you! Yeah!" My family thought it was funny, but I don't think Hannah did. At her party I might be singing it. I mean, we are going to It'z (it's a like an indoor amusement park with an arcade and a buffet), you are supposed to have a good time there and that is a good time for me. My cousin is going so, I think he will laugh. His name is Devon and we always have fun together. So, this and It'z should be our daily dose of fun. Hannah and I think that it is pretty neat to have him, our Aunt Jodi and all of her kids here for her birthday, the party and just being here. So wish me luck at It'z!
